Sustainability at smaXtec

Sustainability is a key priority at smaXtec. With our products and services for dairy farms of all sizes, we make an important contribution to achieving many of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) developed by the United Nations.
The Sustainable Development Goals were launched in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. They include 17 goals that the world needs to achieve collectively by 2030 in order to end poverty, protect the planet and improve the lives of all people everywhere.

smaXtec makes an active contribution to achieving the defined goals in at least five areas.

SDG 2: Zero hunger
smaXtec contributes to this on several levels: early detection of diseases means that cows do not have to be treated with medication such as antibiotics, which involve withdrawal times – this means that milk does not have to be dumped because of antibiotic residues and a higher percentage of the valuable food produced can actually be consumed.

smaXtec helps protect small farms and increases their income by improving efficiency through technology. Furthermore, smaXtec actively contributes to ensuring the sustainability of food production systems in general by helping farmers to be both more sustainable AND more profitable. The continuous further development of technology and its availability to farmers plays an essential role here.

SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation
Clean drinking water is essential. By reducing the use of medication such as antibiotics by using  smaXtec, the consequent contamination of water is avoided, thus increasing water quality.
SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production
Here, smaXtec makes a significant contribution both in terms of developing sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources, and in terms of reducing food losses along the production and supply chain.

By increasing animal health, cow lifespan is extended, resulting in a significantly more efficient use of resources. The production of high quality milk by healthy cows with reduced use of medication not only ensures that the food produced can be consumed, but also reduces any residues of antibiotics in water and soil. Thus, smaXtec helps to minimize negative impact on human health and the environment.

SDG 13: Climate action
Through monitoring and recommendations to optimize feeding as well as increased cow lifespan thanks to improved health, smaXtec actively contributes to reducing methane gas production.
SDG 15: Protection and sustainable use of land resources
Thanks to early detection of problems in health, feeding, reproduction and farm management, smaXtec enables farmers to proactively take measures to correct issues and thus significantly increase animal health and welfare of dairy cows.
